(Mara Pastor)
MAIZE I have so many wants at once they clash. They collide like the world's biggest bubblegum bubble. Now that maize is leaving the house, I'm the one who leaves houses. I want maize. I want so many things. Porosity is a digestive issue. So emotional, digestion. I can't chew gum anymore either. I leave the bags that still haven't come from the past. I leave them with mangoes and maize fields. I become another milpa, a geometry of kind forgiveness, of wild peace. A message was sent to the future through the intestines. Now it's reached my body. Like that satellite they sent to Pluto in 1994 that just arrived. That's how a message from maize reaches my skin. They want me to eat maize. Maize has done so many good things for the world.
