WALKING ALONE
The
woods
were sweet
and of no
season. In early
dark a ranger, no threat to me.
I carried water and three letters under the moon.
An empty clearing dense with amber light, smell of loam:
not a relief—just a place made
for rest. I don’t need
to tell you
this was
a
dream. (Carolyn Oliver)
