(Andrés Neuman) PHANTOM OF THE TONGUE When my mother broke her arm, I never managed to pronounce the bone. After my father’s operation on that midday of knives, I forgot the part they’d intervened into. Ever since my friends lost organs and crossed the border, I stutter when I try to count them. Now that’s happening to me, right where I’m pointing to, like a distant noise. And so I’ll lose each word until I’m left without a lexicon or body, a phantom of the tongue, sheer me, no one. (my translation) This poem comes from LOVE TRAINING, a bilingual edition newly published by Deep Vellum. You can find it here.
