I REMEMBER
the evening comes with rain, and i count
the planets, fingers fanned
venus, jupiter, saturn, once i wrote
to you: i will never forget you
then i forgot you. outside the window the last
blackbird warblings. we can measure ourselves
in daylight hours, and we tell ourselves what was in a dream
and perhaps we will never meet again
you will remember me, i will remember
you, it’s no trouble to anyone. i admit
i would prefer that. i remember remembering
still more i remember nothing.
